      <image:title>RICK WISE - Rick Wise</image:title>
<image:caption>As an 84-year-old artist, I am working with long-practiced concepts and skills from my cinematography days, where color, composition, and the play of light and shadow were my daily companions to story telling. In my new creative life I sometimes begin with objects ("Everyday-Things") and sometimes with street scenes ("Time-Flows.,") and lately I’ve been combining either different views of some element or else of related elements (“Fusions.”) And then I start to play. (There’s a description of my methods here.) I grew up in New York City and escaped the confines of the Eisenhower years as quickly as possible, moving to Beirut, Lebanon, in 1957 and then to Paris, France, where I learned French, studied filmmaking, and worked as a fledgling assistant director for American film productions shooting in France, including Jules Dassin’s Phaedra and Stanley Donen’s Two for the Road. In 1967 I moved to Berkeley. On the strength of a couple of my expressionistic black-and-white documentaries, I was hired at KQED in 1968 as a filmmaker to shoot and edit daily assignments for the game-changing Newsroom under Editor Mel Wax and Producer Dave Grieve. When then-president Nixon cut PBS funding to the bone, I was let go along with most of my colleagues. The two following years in Los Angeles were two years too many. I returned North to Berkeley, found and married the love of my live, Victoria, and began establishing a reputation as a Bay-Area cinematographer shooting commercials and high-end corporate films. Currently I continue to teach film and video lighting to grad and undergrad film students at the Academy of Art University via online classrooms. I also shoot the food photographs for the blog (www.wisekitchen.com) of my wife, cookbook author Victoria Wise. On January 31, 2019, we moved from Oakland to Amador City, California.</image:caption>

      <image:title>SALLY ROESLER - Sally Roesler</image:title>
<image:caption>Sally Roesler defines entrepreneur, a tour de force and a one of a kind mover and shaker in the bead industry for the past 30 years. Her designs and talent have been featured by international brands and sought after by the bead world at large. Graduating from the University of Texas with a BFA in costume design, Sally sharpened her skills at the Santa Fe Opera before working with Broadway’s elite costume houses in New York city. It was the exposure to New York’s diverse culture and the stitching of exotic beads on costumes that peaked Sally’s interest to discovered their origins. It was the genesis of a two year trip around the world that would take her to over eighteen countries and finally land her on Martha’s Vineyard where The Bead Goes On was established in 1989. A successful wholesale bead and jewelry company was not enough to satisfy her entrepreneurial spirit, there was something more challenging on Sally’s horizon, a one of a kind activity based bead store. Beadniks soon became the premier destination bead store for aficionados from around the United States. After 17 successful years operating Beadniks and her annual treks to Asia in search of exotic finds, Sally would turn Beadniks into a national franchise. Sally has since returned to Bangkok to study gemology, befriend the artisans of Kathmandu, explore the night markets of Chiang Mai, walk the shops of Kuta Beach all of which manifest in her designs. Collection, color, culture, and a keen eye for the exotic has become Sally’s calling card, or should we say her passport. Sally resides in Virginia Beach, VA with her husband Craig Sexton, their five cats and Petey the opossum.</image:caption>

      <image:title>MICHÉLE SAVELLE - Michele Savélle</image:title>
<image:caption>Born in Paris, France, and widely traveled in Europe, the United States, Mexico, Canada and South America, Michèle trained professionally in fine arts, glass craft, and graphic design in Seattle, Washington. For much of her career, Michéle worked primarily in glass, showing at many galleries in the United States, including in Seattle, Boca Raton, Milwaukee, New York, Los Angeles, St. Louis. She moved to Mexico and currently resides in Puerto Vallarta. Her career body of work includes paintings and fused-glass works, along with the current series of detailed ink drawings. Deeply moved by the natural world and pre-Columbian history of West Mexico, Michèle seeks in her drawings to convey the vitality and power of life force there, and through that, to hint at something deeper: the patterns and energies underlying those forms. In Puerto Vallarta, it is possible to live closer to nature and still enjoy the comforts of a small city, and this exposure to a wilder nature on a daily basis (iguanas in the trees outside the windows of her home, for example) has allowed the artist to manifest an art that is deeply felt and expansive. At a time in history when we humans face the real possibility of extinction, and our impact on the natural world grows more extreme, Michèle embraces and shares the magnificence of creation, and strives to glimpse the forces behind it. Michèle is represented by The Loft Galeria in Puerto Vallarta. She lives with her husband, Klaus Liebetanz, a virtuoso professional flutist from Europe, and a small gray cat named Meredith. ................................................................................................................................. <image:title>FRANCIS SOLAR - FRANCIS SOLAR</image:title>
<image:caption>Artist Quote I find the improvised play of masculine materials with traditional feminine techniques and forms in my free standing sculpture and wall mounted work is endlessly entertaining and challenging. It is very satisfying to be able to transcend the inherent qualities of the metallic materials often associated with weight and rigidity and create forms that are sensual and flowing in appearance. Artist Statement Frances loves the challenge of working with all the weird ‘junk’ that she has collected (or been given) over the years and then re-inventing new uses and combinations so they can be hung on a wall. The three dimensional pieces use brilliant color, bold patterns ,textures and unique manipulated forms, allowing for an improvised design process. Technique Frances has been a traditional weaver and textile artist for many years, and applying the same techniques and ideas to industrial materials is a natural progression of her work. Frances uses loom weaving, plaiting, and quilting techniques to create her sculptural metal vessels and wall pieces. Copper is her primary material; she likes its malleability and wide range of color possibilities. Training Frances is mostly self-taught as a weaver. Her degree in Interior Design gave her an excellent training in color and design. Her work with sculptural basketry techniques was inspired by workshops at Basket Focus conferences in the late 1990’s with artists John Garrett, Arline Fisch and Dorothy Gill Barnes. <image:title>NELDA WARKENTIN - Nelda Warkentin</image:title>
<image:caption>While working full-time for the State of Alaska, a design class at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art sparked my interest in an art career. After experimenting with different mediums, I chose fiber and used acrylic painted silk to make quilts. Influential artists at the time were Nancy Crow, Emily Richardson and Ned Wert; also, the writings and art of Emily Carr. My quilts were juried into numerous national and international exhibitions. Two received the Award of Distinction at Quilt Nihon in Japan. Another received the Domini McCarthy Award at Quilt National. In 2006, I was artist-in-residence at the Weir Farm Historic Site in Wilton CT. For several years, I was on the board of the international non-profit Studio Art Quilt Associates. Many of my quilts reside in public and private collections. Numerous galleries, museums and other venues have exhibited them, including the U.S. Embassies in Moscow, Cape Town, Podgorica and the U.S. NATO Embassy in Brussels. They are also featured in the Lark Books, ‘Masters: Art Quilts, Volume 2’. A few years ago, my work in fiber came to its logical end. Oil painting became my new medium, partly because its portability fit my lifestyle. More importantly, I wanted to create realistic images. Painting classes and workshops with established artists, as well as studying the work of other painters (especially Georgia O’Keefe and Andrew Wyeth), helped me explore this exciting new medium. A well-received early portrait ignited a spark; I have specialized in portraits ever since. Portraiture provides an opportunity for me to examine ideas and beliefs; plus, making faces ‘come alive’ is challenging and very rewarding.</image:caption>

      <image:title>WOSENE WORKE KOSROF - Wosene Worke Kosrof</image:title>
<image:caption>Born in 1950 in the Arat Kilo district of Addis Ababa, Wosene Worke Kosrof is a contemporary American artist who has achieved international acclaim. Formally trained at the Addis Ababa School of Fine Arts, he completed a BFA with distinction in 1972. Then, as a Ford Foundation Talent Scholar, he was awarded an MFA in 1980 from Howard University in Washington, DC. For more than four decades, Wosene (his professional name) has created a internationally recognized artistic signature in his work by being the first contemporary Ethiopian-born artist to use the script forms – fiedel – of his native Amharic as a core element in his paintings and sculptures. This recognizable ‘signature’ emerges from the way he elongates, distorts, dissects, and reassembles Amharic symbols – not as literal words – but as images that speak for themselves in a visual language accessible tointernational audiences. Jazz improvisations underlie his compositions, animating them with rhythmic movements and emboldening his masterfuluse of color. The very nature of Wosene’s work – his visual vocabulary, his ‘mapping’ of cultures across time and place, his sensual use of form and color – testifies to the visual power and versatility of language. “I create a visible, interactive surface – like visual icons that are accessible to everyone. My paintings invite viewers to dialogue with them, to take them into their memory.” A major aspect of Wosene’s works is that they present us with a challenge to look into the art, feel its effect, and to watch what happens. He paints from a place between mastery and uncertainty – and so the viewer too can approach his work to discover meanings that emerge through interaction. Wosene lives and has his studio in Berkeley, California. <image:title>BILL WHITE - Bill White</image:title>
      <image:caption>b. Seattle Washington, U.S.A. 1947

By the time he was 12 years old he was a devoted fan of Norman Rockwell especially after the release of My Adventures As An Illustrator, Rockwell’s autobiography. Sometime in 1960 Bill’s mother wrote to the Saturday Evening Post to ask for permission for Bill to send a portfolio of portraits of Rockwell along with some original early Bill White illustrations. The portfolio was sent and came back about a month later with a two-side handwritten letter to Bill from the famous illustrator himself. The letter exists today as a reminder of a dream Bill had of becoming an illustrator like Rockwell, and it still influences his painting style today. After a brief stint at the University of Washington art school which featured strange conceptual design classes and a modern approach to art he escaped to the world of commercial art. From 1971 to 1996 Bill White created and operated White Sign and Graphic Design. It was primarily a sign and design shop in Seattle Washington wherein Bill specialized in hand painted signs, graphic design, hand carving, advertising design, ad copy, illustration, caricatures and cartooning. Using those self-developed skills, he produced competent and creative work for a vast variety of clients. His client list goes from mom-and-pop stores, to a fully illustrated anti-drug coloring book for the Seattle Seahawks, to sign design and construction for the Pike Place Market P.D.A. in Seattle, and finally to Kryspy Kreme Donuts. During those sign painting years Bill was able to hone his skills as a sign designer, many times working with restaurant owners to develop their entire identity package from menu design, to point of purchase signs and posters, to print advertising, to interior and exterior graphic design of the building.

The many years of sitting at a sign painters easel stroking letters or hanging off the back of a boat he was lettering taught him a multitude of exacting and expressive brush strokes that apply directly to his style of fine art expression today.
In 1998 Bill White attended his first portrait class at the Seattle Academy of Fine Art and realized that realist painting was similar in technique to all the other skills he had developed previously in his commercial art business. From that point on he never looked back. While studying color theory with Charles Emerson and attending a variety of workshops from artists like John Nava, William Elston, Peter Malarkey, Mitch Albala, Juliet Aristides and others at the Academy, he began producing and showing portrait samples at the University Village Starbucks store in Seattle. His shows at the Starbucks flagship store and at the lucrative Bellevue Square store secured him commissions enough to launch his portrait painting career.
In November 2004 Bill made the move to Puerto Vallarta Mexico following another old dream. In January he began showing in a gallery. The next year he painted mostly genre and portrait paintings with Puerto Vallarta’s own folkloric dance troupe Baile Xiutla as his main subject. Most were sold as commissioned works to private collectors and in the gallery. In January 2006 Bill began painting a total of eleven commissioned portraits of the Bishops and Priests for the main Church of Guadalupe in Puerto Vallarta for display in their future museum. Because of the rich and vivid colors of Mexico, Bill White continues to use the folkloric dancers, friends, Charros and Escaramuzas of Mexico as primary subjects of his oil paintings. Further, he has worked very hard becoming Puerto Vallarta’s acknowledged Fine Portraitist and painter of breathtakingly beautiful nude studies. Even though the dream of being a famous illustrator like Norman Rockwell is gone, it has been replaced by a much more satisfying desire to realistically paint the beauty and joy of the people of Mexico.</image:caption>
